13th April 2016 Press Release
Midlands based IT company, MaximITy, is celebrating its sixteenth birthday after Founder and Managing Director Tracy Pound, decided to set up on her own following a long and successful career in IT.
“It was quite daunting at first setting up on my own but I knew I could do it.”
As a woman working in a very male-dominated IT industry, Tracy had risen from a programmer in 1984 to eventually heading up BTR’s Global Anti-Vibration Systems division. There she managed a capital expenditure budget of £8 million before being headhunted to work for a large IT consultancy.
Before establishing the company, Tracy’s position as an IT consultant involved a 248 mile round trip and working away from home. Wanting a better work-life balance, Tracy founded MaximITy in April 2000, converting her garage into an office. Tracy slowly but gradually built her business. At first, she just offered onsite IT training to local companies on Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word. As the company grew, Tracy took the decision to move out of her garage and in 2009 relocated to Tamworth with its good rail and motorway connections.
“It was important I offered my customers a good facility to learn away from the distractions of their business in an easy to reach location. Our Centre of Excellence training room gives organisations the option to book onto scheduled courses. Naturally we still train onsite if that’s what the client prefers.”
MaximITy services now include consultancy and project management. Its’ mission is to “bridge the gap that exists between business and IT” and their clients include local small businesses and multi-national organisations.
“The business developed organically.” Tracy explained.
“Customers wanted me to help them automate the sharing of data and information.”
MaximITy’s cost-effective hands-on IT courses are limited to a maximum of eight people, to ensure that delegates receive personal training focused on their business needs. The range of courses MaximITy provide has expanded and now include Sage, Project Management, Visio and ACT. In addition, the company also use Associates to offer business coaching and soft-skills training to their clients. The bright and airy training room, which can be hired, holds up to 45 people for seminars, presentations and talks and 20 for training where computers aren’t required.
Tracy, a recent finalist in an industry Woman of the Year awards, is also a board director of International IT trade association CompTIA. She is helping spearhead CompTIA’s ‘Advancing Women in IT’ awareness drive in the UK. Although her commute doesn’t involve a 248 mile trip any more, her work with CompTIA has seen her travel to Chicago, Italy, Spain, France, Germany and London in the last few months to work with some of the world’s largest IT companies.
“I’m so proud of MaximITy and the services we offer – especially our training which is personalised to needs.” MaximITy have recently refurbished their Centre of Excellence to ensure it remains fit for purpose and they are inviting businesses to come and see for themselves the state of the art facilities on Friday 29th April 2016. “Reaching our 16th birthday is a milestone and I want to share it with the people and businesses that have helped me grow.”
